Dr. Robert Kohn

Robert Kohn, MD - Rhode Island Geriatric Psychiatry Practitioner

Based in Rhode Island, Robert Kohn, MD, has had a wide-ranging career in mental health clinically focused on geriatric psychiatry. He began as a professional providing homebound elders with psychiatric care and went on to establish Brown University’s geriatric psychiatry fellowship, followed by progressing into geriatric psychiatry leadership roles across various hospitals. Dr. Robert Kohn’s research in his field includes depression, PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, suicide, and delivery of services to the homebound. He has also examined rates of mental illness and neuropsychiatric risk factors.

Dr. Kohn has practiced and taught extensively abroad and has an abiding interest in global mental health and cultural psychiatry. His far-reaching research in Guatemala earned him award recognition from the Universidad de San Carlos. In Chile, Dr. Kohn earned the Dr. Ramon Corbalan Melgarejo Award for “best public health publication.”

Dr. Robert Kohn directed the Collaborating Center for Research on Psychiatric Epidemiology and Mental Health of the World Health Organization (WHO) and has consulted with WHO and the Pan American Health Organization on various projects, many of which are ongoing. He is active with the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.
